Nepal Earthquake Relief
25th April 2015

An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck Nepal on 25th April 2015, followed by several aftershocks as well as another major one. We were flooded with enquiries of concern as the damage was intense. Nepal’s Valley, famous for its trekking routes, was wiped out. Our humanitarian work began. Contacting with difficulty the Nepal Red Cross Headquarters at Kathmandu, we sent therelief requested by them as they struggled with the distribution of relief, the wounded & disposal of the dead.

The relief material partly purchased and partly donated was therefore sent through Maharashtra State Branch by road which included medicines, tents, biscuits, food grains, blankets, bed sheets, towels, hygiene kits, sanitarynapkins, baby diapers, mini solar lights, tarpaulins, readymade garments and dry rations etc.

Donors in particular: J. B. Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd. & Rotary Club of Mumbai Queens Necklace Mumbai, for medicines worth 40 lakh, principal, staff, students of Wilson College & their volunteers for going around residential colonies & other areas collecting donations.

Parents & Students of the American School of Bombay for their large donation in kind, Employees of DP World Pvt. Ltd & Associated Companies. The Young Ratheshtars aged 4 to 10 years of Navazbai Contractor Baug in Mahim; Mumbai tied up with the Indian Red Cross Society Maharashtra State Branch and created appeal posters for the victims of the earthquake & went door to door collecting funds from fellow residents and friends.
